Using Orderflow to Confirm Breakout Trades
Breakouts are tempting—but without confirmation, they’re traps waiting to spring. That’s where Orderflow comes in. At Vtrender, we use real-time Orderflow tools to separate fakeouts from true breakout intent—so you’re not reacting to price alone, but reading the conviction behind the move.
A candle breaking a level means nothing without participation. Orderflow confirmation requires:
- Initiative Buying or Selling (IB/IS) pushing through the zone
- Strong COT (Commitment of Traders) pressure in the breakout direction
- LLT activity supporting the move, not fading it
- Volume Clusters forming beyond the breakout, not below it
When price breaks out and you see passive absorption or COT hesitation, it’s a red flag. But when IB bars appear, supported by LLT trades and rising COT, the move has teeth.
For example:
- A 30-minute breakout above IB range with IB30 + LLT + COT strength is high conviction.
- A failed breakout followed by IS + heavy volume at the same level = ideal short trap.
- Breakouts with zero LLT support are often liquidity hunts, not real moves.
We teach traders not to predict breakouts—but to confirm them. Let the move show up, then ask: who’s behind this, and are they serious?
